Taking on the Chillax Challenge

This post is brought to you by Chillax

With my 4 a.m. wake ups to hit the gym and trying to be more social this year as well as up the ante on the blogging front, I noticed that one thing was getting affected: my sleep. Last year, I was able to have a full 8 hours worth of sleep. But doing so much this time around has meant there are some weeks I’ve been getting only 6 hours. Now 6 hours straight is probably not bad. But when you have cats who love to snuggle up to you at 2 in the morning and therefore wake you up, even those 6 hours are not sufficient.

So when I was offered to try out the Chillax Natural Sleep drink, I figured I’d give it a go.

I did check out first whether it would prove to be a sedative because that’s not what I want! No zonked out me in the morning. I was assured that Chillax did not have any sedative effects. Basically, Chillax is a 100% natural solution. It has a combination of Montmorency Cherry Juice which naturally contains melatonin plus Lactium which is a dairy ingredient with clinically proven calming benefits and stevia to enhance sweetness. It is non-addictive with no risk of overdose and is best taken about 30 minutes to an hour before going to bed. It can also help to get your body clock back in rhythm {which will not only be handy for travellers, but also for those of us who struggle to adjust to Daylight Savings changes!!}

I kept a log for the 12 days that I used it. I started using it on the 10th of March. In other words, I was using it the week I went crazy in terms of doing stuff after work.

Day 1: Had a pretty full-on day with volunteering in the morning and then catching up with a friend for lunch in the city. Suffice to say, I was buggered that night but still keen to blog. Tried Chillax 30 minutes before bed for the first time. The smell initially put me off — smelt a bit like cough medicine to me. But once I got over that, the taste was all right. Like cherries pretty much. Uneventful night and woke up Monday morning nice and early for the gym. Coffees today: 1 instead of the usual 2 on weekends.

Day 2: Could have gone to bed early today but because I was blogging, ended up staying up later than usual. Didn’t sleep through the night thanks to Pebbles waking me up with her purring and Buttons wanting to cuddle. Woke up reasonably alert and hit the gym.  Coffees today: 2 instead of the usual 3 on weekdays

Day 3: Had an exceptionally busy day and only got home at 10 p.m. after being awake since about 4:30 in the morning. Was tired but still managed  to blog. Went to bed and got woken up by the cats. Again. Could not go to the gym in the morning despite keeping the alarm for 4. Coffees today: 2

Day 4:  Quiet day at work but late night again! I need to really get to bed earlier. Blogging and reading and well, having fun keeps me awake. Cats didn’t keep me up too long this night.  Coffees today: 3 {Yeah, I needed them to stay awake at work!}

Day 5: Slept well through the night and was able to hit the gym bright and early. Busy day at work and Italian class at night. All is well. Coffees today: 2

Day 6: Had my friend J come over to watch a movie tonight. Went to bed at midnight after a wine and some Chillax with the knowledge that I have to wake up early again for the gym and then work on Saturday. Sigh. Funnily enough, woke up reasonably alert. Coffees today: 2

Day 7: Tired after the previous day. Very tired. Had a night out. Again. Late night. Again. Sleeping through the night though which is good. Coffees today: 3

Day 8: Going out to lunch today but woke up very refreshed and thankful that it’s Sunday. Gave the gym a miss. Was able to go out to lunch, do my grocery shopping and then cook for the week ahead. And blog! I’m on a roll! Went to bed at a reasonable hour.  Coffees today: 1 {Hurrah!}

Day 9: Almost forgot the Chillax today. Wonder if it’ll have any effect taken less than 30 minutes before I go to bed. Then again, I spend time in bed reading and on my phone so I suppose it will eventually be 30 minutes! Coffees today: 2

Day 10: Busy, busy day at work. I don’t know if I’m coming or going. Went to the gym like a good girl again this morning. Always feel good after a workout. Once again though, late to bed. Why? I have no clue. Coffees today: 2

Day 11: Didn’t sleep too well last night thanks to my kitties waking me up. Stayed awake a whole hour. A bit bleh this morning as I didn’t even go to the gym. Another busy day at work. Tried to get to bed at a reasonable hour but got distracted addicted to my phone. Crap. Coffees today: 2 {It might have been 3 had I been in the office in the morning instead of on the road}

Day 12: Went to the gym in the morning after a good sleep. Woke up refreshed. Quiet day at work but days without clients can make me feel worse. Had Italian class at night and was alert and ended up going to bed late again. Coffees today: 2

My verdict: Well, I’m not sure. There were some days I got good sleep, and some days I didn’t. Some days I woke up refreshed, some days that were a struggle. I guess though, there was a noticeable change in my energy levels in that I was able to burn the candle at both ends pretty much. I enjoyed the taste of Chillax after I got over the initial smell. I’m not sure if the results would have been different if I didn’t have cats purring in my face or snuggling up trying to find a good spot in the crook of my arm. Maybe they should come up with a natural sleep drink for cats! 🙂

***I was provided with 12 90 ml bottles of Chillax to take on the challenge. The opinions in this post are entirely my own and I was not compensated for this post in any other way.***

Until next time,

Cheers!!!

    I think you are over worked 🙂 You need to relax and reduce the amount of activities you do. I can never survive on 6 hours sleep. I will be so crabby…

    hmph! you gave no clear verdict. I was rooting for you to say, it works. If it did, you would have had me buying in bulk and giving it to the kids.

    What, you thought it was for me? No, I don’t need any help. If the kids sleep well, I sleep well. Oh, and since they don’t need to have any extra energy than what they already have, I guess this is something I am not going to try.

    OK, now to get serious – You are doing so much! Work, gym, language classes, cats. Wow! I can’t function with less than 8 hours of sleep.

    I’ve read a review of this product on another blog recently and it also gave similar results. Can’t help but wonder if the placebo effect has come into play. I doubt I’d try it. Good review though!

      I agree Vanessa…there is the possibility of the placebo. I don’t think though anything would help if you have cats waking you up in the middle of the night and if you’re burning the candle at both ends like a crazy person!

    I can’t function well without 8 hours of sleep. With 7, I can barely keep my eyes open through the day. But then there have been days when I’ve gone to college with nil to one hour of sleep…! Hell, I tell you.

    Wow, you do blog diligently. I did notice that, and though “this girl’s writing up a storm” a few days ago! I thought technology is to blame for keeping me awake – it is, for the major part – but I (re-)discovered that if I have a good book lying around, that can keep me up longer than the internet -_-

    Maybe you could try some pre-sleep ritual, to get your body anticipating a nice, refreshing sleep. I also read that we should turn off all screens (laptop, kindle, cellphones) at least an hour prior to sleeping. Eeep! I’m definitely guilty of reading in my phone in bed!
