#Villanelle: The Fight #atozchallenge

If only you knew about my plight
Fighting lewd comments everyday
You wouldn’t ask me to give up this fight

I have to fight with all my might
Against those who treat me like prey
If only you knew about my plight

If you saw them touch me like it’s their right
You’d understand the things I say
You wouldn’t ask me to give up this fight

On the media, the things they write
These trolls put women on display
If only you knew about my plight

You think their bark is worse than their bite
But in my head their words still stay
You wouldn’t ask me to give up this fight

I’ve got to watch where I walk at night
I startle at shadows in my way
If only you knew about my plight
You wouldn’t ask me to give up this fight

A Villanelle is a nineteen-line poem consisting of a very specific rhyming scheme: aba aba aba aba aba abaa. The first and the third lines in the first stanza are repeated in alternating order throughout the poem, and appear together in the last couplet (last two lines).

At each line, I was feeling this rage inside me – and sort of helpless, but yes, we wouldn’t ever give up this fight. Good one, again, Sanch.

I love writing a Villanelle. Though it is a little confusing with the rhyming scheme, it is fun!
    Your poem is so powerful!

Have to agree with Sreesha. The rage build up was so potent with each line and the refrain added to the anger so well, together with the helplessness.
