Afraid

Something is waiting for me outside –
It beckons with a creepy smile
Covered in black, it chills me,
making my insides swirl;
As the bile rises,
my throat feels choked,
my thoughts race,
I feel
fear

We all fear fear. And if it is the unknown fear then God save .

That was so chilling! You can sense the presence of it like a real, living creature, which sometimes is exactly what fear is like.

Chilling narration, Sanch. You have conveyed the essence of the word in just a few well-crafted words. Nicely done.

Quite a powerful post in so less words.
We all feel and fear feat – not sure if that makes any sense.

Can anyone live without fear? Someone one told me how important fear is. Apparently it is a survival instinct as well.

We all are afraid of one thing or the other. You worded it in a powerful yet simple way.

I like the inversion of this–the buildling of sensory descriptions and the landing on the single word, “fear.”

I like your choice to place the fear outside. For me, home is a sanctuary, so the idea that all the bad in the world is on the other side of the door felt true.

Your words bring to mind the ever present fear, cloaked in black that has haunted me for years together. It is really all a figment of our imagination, yet, we keep feeding it and succumb to it without even putting up a good fight.

    Fear can be so debilitating!
