Sense of Serenity in July #FlourishInsideOut


This month, I’m a bit late with Flourish Inside Out. The theme for the month is serenity. I must confess, the first phrase that comes to mind with this emotion is ‘How’s the serenity‘ {cue The Castle}. But I digress.

What is serenity

Serenity is a state of being calm, at peace and untroubled. In other words, it is the opposite of feeling stressed and busy, which is what a lot of us commonly experience.

Benefits of serenity

While there isn’t specific literature on the benefits of serenity on mental health, it is common knowledge that practises such as meditation or mindfulness can help achieve a state of serenity. The benefits of these include (Source):

  • Lower blood pressure
  • Improvements in our immune system
  • Lower rates of anxiety and stress
  • Increase in optimism and awareness
  • Helps with focus and concentration
  • Better mental health

Serenity in your life

  • Meditate {after the previous section, you can’t not try this!}
  • Go out and spend time in nature
  • Journalling can help de-stress
  • Practice mindfulness in everyday life
  • Exercise
  • Have a morning routine to help you start the day right

Serenity is not rocket science. You don’t need special equipment to achieve this state. So why not make a pact to feel a sense of serenity this month? I know I plan to.
