Hellfire and Damnation II is a collection of 11 short stories that address the 9 Circles of Hell. As per Dante’s Inferno, these circles include Limbo, Lust, Gluttony, Greed, Wrath, Heresy, Violence, Fraud and Treachery. Wilson has made use of these themes and created stories where characters engage in these behaviours and subsequently face the consequences. It’s hard to give you a gist of the book without giving away too much. But in short, the stories range from spooky ghosts and an undead corpse to murderous husbands and wives. My favourite stories were ‘The Shell‘ and ‘The Bureau‘. They stayed with me long after I finished the book.

I must admit, when I first started the book, I didn’t enjoy the first story. And was not looking forward to reading the rest. But then came ‘The Shell‘. And I was hooked. The stories are captivating and spine-tingling…they leave you wanting more. In a succinct manner, Wilson manages to hook the reader into this world thereby delighting you with the plight of the characters. Given that they are short stories, they are a very easy read and you could possibly finish it within a day in one sitting.
