12WBT: A review

My 12 week body transformation journey ended on Sunday. So after having gone through it for 12 weeks, what did I notice?

Well, for starters, my goal for joining this program was more about a healthy lifestyle than just numbers on a scale. I have said time and again how given my family history of heart problems, I knew I had to do something. And my diet in particular had been way off the mark in the last year despite me working out at the gym. The 12WBT program offered me just that: a healthy diet in the form of weekly meal plans and recipes and weekly exercise programs.

These are some things I got out of the program:

  • I really did love the recipes. They were healthy but not crazy. I didn’t really have to cut out anything completely. I could have a glass of wine on Fridays and Saturdays if I didn’t snack. I was allowed to have cheese but a light version and well, a lot less quantity than before. I could eat carbs and protein and fat.
  • I enjoyed the exercise programs too. Given that I was a gym member, I chose the gym machines option and had my plan accordingly. If you were to choose exercising outdoors or at home, there are options for that too.
  • I lost 5.5 kgs in 12 weeks. This after missing out a couple of weeks in between thanks to falling sick. Additionally, I also lost 34 cms overall. It’s particularly noticeable in before-after photos we put up in our two-piece swimwear. And no, I’m not sharing that on this blog!
  • Planning is important! Organisation is the key to a healthy lifestyle. For me it included knowing what I was going to eat the week ahead and preparing most meals on the weekend for the week. Freezing some meals was very helpful during the weeks I had had a busy weekend. Plus my days were organised so I could go to the gym in the morning at 5 a.m. as it works best for me. After work, I’m way too tired.

In the end though, I decided not to go ahead with Round 4. I figured I would try the next 3 months on my own and see how I go with losing a few kilos and more importantly, starting to tone my muscles. I will still be watching my calorie intake and have been okay both yesterday and today with the same. Then next year, I will think about whether I need to do another round more so for help around exercises. Or else consider personal training options for a while at the gym. It all depends on finances of course.

And just to prove my point on the food, I’ll leave you with pictures of meals that made some people {read: friends on Facebook} think that I am a masterchef. 😀

Here’s to a healthier lifestyle!

Until next time,

Cheers!!!

P.S. This is NOT a sponsored post. It’s my experience of Round 3 after paying for it myself and going through the program for this round.

I’ve always thought that meal planning is important! Because if I don’t, mom & me always end up despairing at the last minute about what to cool & end up preparing a slapdash meal or ordering food from out. Your food photos really made me drool!
I don’t know how you looked ‘before’ but I think you look fabulous now, your work outfits are beautiful too! I hope you can keep this up, I surely need to be a bit healthier too, my sedentary lifestyle is causing all sorts of brand new flab.

Well done on your loss, looking fab in some swimmers is a great achievement.

I think the food was the biggest thing for me. I wish there was someone that just did food planning for me. With a huge database of recipes. I would totally pay for that.

Yours looks so much better than some of mine did 😉

I think it is a fabulous program, if you follow it and stick to it. Which I didn’t 😉 I gave up on the exercise half way through..for a bunch of reasons.
