2012 Year in review: The good, the crap and downright shitty

Dear 2012,

Let me be upfront with you. I am glad to be almost over and done with you. You were a real jerk to me most of the time and I wouldn’t wish to have you again. Or at least, most of you. Are you wondering why I disliked you 2012?

I’ll start with the downright shitty stuff:

One of them happened right at the start of the year which I didn’t blog about in detail. Basically, I witnessed an accident and gave a statement to the police as any good samaritan would. Here I was doing the right thing and all that resulted from it was a whole lot of stress. Including being subpoenaed to testify in court on behalf of the prosecution. And just when I thought it was over, I got contacted by one of the insurance parties for another statement. Till today, I’m anxious about what happened. And I’ve avoided the suburb where the defendant lives even though there is a restaurant out there I love. The other shitty stuff this year was my health. I cannot believe I fell sick about 4 times this year. Sore throat and all. It involved several antibiotics, time off work and well, shittiness in general.

And that’s not all 2012. There’s the other crappy stuff.

Like all the stress when Pebbles and Buttons wouldn’t get along and the sleepless nights as a result. And my relationship not working out. Then there were the issues with Pebbles’ and Buttons’ health and of course, the money spent on that. Pebbles spraining her paw and having ringworm. And poor Buttons’ having something like cat flu and a scratch on his eye which required eye ointments and medication and the stress that he could lose his sight in one eye if it didn’t improve.There was of course, the wonderful start to the year when my car got rear-ended. My finances this year have not been good either and it doesn’t help that I spent on clothes. Finally, the icing on the cake was a close friend moving away. For how long, I don’t know. Oh and I also tried doing some private work but gave it up thanks to my health issues and therefore not having the energy to network. On top of it all, I had a very poor work-life balance this year with more work and less life. Bringing work home drove me nuts.

Sure, there were good things.

Like my parents and sister coming to visit. And us going to Cairns, Brisbane and Melbourne. Pebbles and Buttons got along after all. Even though Buttons continues to bully Pebbles sometimes. My weight-loss journey was successful and I’m enjoying feeling sexy and healthy at the moment. And I no longer need any extra motivation to hit the gym. I also did a presentation for other health and education professionals 3 times. Overcame the initial nerves and got some positive feedback from the school counsellors who attended the talks. I also met a fellow-blogger for the first time which was nice. And in the last few months, I have gone a bit out of my comfort zone and joined a couple of groups.

All in all though, 2012, you can see why I am not a big fan of yours. I tell myself I have learnt from the shitty and crappy stuff and that they will help me grow. But at the same time, I could do without the stress in 2013. {Are you listening, 2013???}

Hope I don’t see you again 2012,
