…by Rebecca Graf.
Brenna is a high school English teacher in the small town of Whitewater. An orphan, and reasonably new to the town, she befriends Tahnee whose son Layford is in Breanna’s class. As Brenna is caught between the affections of two men, Slaton, Tahnee’s older son, and Eaton, a police officer, she is also in the sights of someone more sinister. Someone who is stalking her and biding his time to have her to himself. Brenna realises she has a deeper connection with Slaton and struggles to explore this while at the same time fearing for her life at the hands of the Creeper.
Why does the Creeper want Brenna so badly?
To find out, you have to read the book.
This book falls under the category of paranormal fiction, with romance and suspense blended in. I don’t mind paranormal fiction and I do like my mysteries. However, this book just didn’t do it for me. The suspense was good especially initially and while we are trying to figure out why the Creeper is after Brenna. But then it just dragged on. Personally, I thought the book was 150 pages too long. The romance between Slaton and Brenna was infuriating. I don’t know if it’s because of where I am in life at the moment or because it is just truly unbelievable to have that perfect a romance but I just couldn’t buy it. Again for me personally, the whole reason why Creeper was after Brenna fell flat. Without giving away too much, let’s just say it goes against all my feminist beliefs. Finally, I couldn’t take to any of the characters except maybe Layford (who plays a small role). Brenna was too much of a damsel in distress and a bit similar to another character in a book I’ve loved to smack. Slaton wasn’t too believable either and seemed too up himself. Eaton was probably the most realistic but even he dragged on a bit too much with the whole trying-to-save-Brenna thing. All in all, I think the book was a bit too shallow and superficial in the way the characters presented. The suspense is not too bad though.
This is the first book of a trilogy and the next book is known as Dark Connections. Needless to say, I won’t be jumping to get it.
If you like your romance and the paranormal, you may like this book a lot more than me.
