Miranti over at Pen & Peplum came up with this brilliant idea of looking back a decade ago at how we were and comparing it to how we are now. Given that I turn 30 next month, I think it’s a perfect opportunity to compare my life in my teens to the person I am now.
Then: 13 to 19
Now: Karnivool, Birds of Tokyo, The Living End, Placebo, Linkin Park, British India, Arctic Monkeys, Matt Corby, Stonefield, Keane, Jet, The Killers…
Then: Boyzone, Westlife, Backstreet Boys, ABBA, Bollywood songs…
Now: 30 Rock, The Big Bang theory, Cricket, Australian story, Four Corners, random documentaries when I get the time…
Then: The X-Files, Sabrina the teenage witch, FRIENDS, Two guys and a girl, ER
Now: J. K Rowling, Jodi Picoult, Jonathan Franzen, Rohinton Mistry, non-fiction — more books that make you think despite the fact that they can be depressing.
Then: Enid Blyton, Nancy Drew on campus, Sweet Valley, Babysitter’s club, Sidney Sheldon — mostly fantasy, mind-numbing trash or mysteries.
Now: Ian Kenny, Adam Gilchrist, Michael Clarke, cute guy at the gym
Then: Adam Gilchrist, David Duchovny, Ronan Keating
Now: Reds, purples, yellows, oranges, blacks — dresses, skirts, shorts and jeans. Anything that makes me feel sexy basically! 😀
Then: Black or grey baggy tees and jeans. Anything that would cover my body.
Now: Long and layered with a fringe. Still never been coloured and showing some strands of grey.
Then: Short bob black hair.
Now: Bush walking, beach, reading, hitting the gym, camping, blogging, spoiling the cats, rocking to some great music
Then: Reading, playing cricket, watching TV
Now: Very opinionated, stubborn, almost-don’t-give-a-fuck, independent
Then: People-pleaser, high need for approval, yet a bit stubborn and opinionated
Now: Continue working with adolescents and children in mental health, write a book some day, do some freelance writing
Then: To move to Australia, become a sports journalist, live my life like something out of FRIENDS
Now: Work, travel, dream, live life to the fullest, be authentic, live in the moment
Then: Go to uni, get a job, get to Australia
So there you go…it’s been fun seeing how much I’ve grown. If you feel like reflecting back on your life a decade ago, please go ahead and write a post. Don’t forget to leave your link in the comments so I can read it!
Until next time,
