I need a holiday

I think I officially need a holiday. A solo-adventure. To refresh myself, re-energise and recuperate. Sure, I have been having some great camping weekends and trips to Hyams Beach, Kiama or Kosciuszko, but I think it’s that time again when I need to explore on my own.

Last year’s Port Stephen’s trip spoilt me.

I initially thought I should go overseas. Either New Zealand or Nepal. But I’m planning on going to Canada in 2015 to visit my sister and have a long-ish holiday which means I need to save a bit of funds for that. Then I thought of possibly visiting Cairns again and exploring the places I haven’t been to or perhaps try Western Australia. But then, I am definitely aiming to visit Tasmania next year after a friend just returned walking the Overland track. I’m so envious looking at his pictures of Tassie on Facebook.

In the end, I seem to have narrowed down my holiday options to a place I can drive. Which basically would mean, along the east coast of Australia. There is still a lot of New South Wales I haven’t seen. And so, I am wondering whether I should travel down the South Coast — past Jervis Bay given that it’s been the furthest I have travelled to here.

Starred places are where I might stop

Starred places are where I might stop

I am thinking if I take about 10 days off work in May {after the Easter & school holidays!} and then just drive south. Stop at Ulladulla and Mollymook to begin with. Then head over to Bateman’s Bay for a few days. Then perhaps head further south along the Princes Highway and see if any other places capture my heart. Or else stop at Narooma. Have my tent and sleeping bag with me in case I want to camp out near Eden. And eventually head back up the Princes Highway back home. For the first time ever, I am contemplating not booking anything. Just going with the flow. If I see a town I like, I can check out accommodation for a night or two. Or just camp at a camp site somewhere. Even if I don’t make it all the way down to Eden, it’s no big deal. Like I said, I just want to see where the universe takes me.

These are the thoughts percolating in my head at present.

I’m hoping they will soon take shape.

Have you ever had road trips for over a week where you didn’t plan places to stay or visit?

Do share your experiences!

Until next time,

Cheers!!!

Sounds like awesome plan. You should definitely try going with the flow… Hopping cities, soaking in their cultures. I need a break too!! Sigh!

This sounds like a lot of fun PB! I’ve never done something like this, but have really wanted to since a long time! And the first step towards that is to learn how to drive! 😐

That looks like a plan! 🙂 I have never been brave enough to take a holiday all by myself! Nor did I have any of those “didn’t plan places to stay or visit” experiences. I have usually gone out with my gang, and been always well prepared with hotel bookings and places to visit.. do I want to take one such trip? I really don’t know! I might! You inspire me to do that! 🙂

Don’t forget to stop in Tilba Tilba, such a cute hippie shop there. And Narooma Golf course used to have an amazing local chef a couple of years ago. Have fun!

I love the idea of just going where the wind blows and seeing what happens! Years ago a friend and I did a driving holiday in the NT… We had a loose plan of where we would stay but it was nice to just jump in the car and drive to the next place when we were ready.. Given the isolation. Though we did need to do some forward planning!
    Good luck!!

Yes, yes, yes – go for it. I live south of Batemans Bay and it’s so gorgeous around here. I love the idea of just going where ever you want, I wish I could do something like this!
