Too late

She came into his life
Like a rainbow through the grey
Bringing light into his sorrows
And easing his pain
Her love for him unconditional
Not playing any games
Of this he wasn’t accustomed to
Having been burnt by previous flames
He wondered what she saw in him
Questioned her motives for months
Why would someone so sexy and intelligent
Fall for him — a no one
She tried to make him understand
That she loved the man he was
Despite being broken and burnt
He was passionate about many a cause
She showed him his inherent goodness
And how he made her smile
But none of this could he believe
As he loathed the man inside
He tried to test her feelings
By shutting her out
She made an effort to reach him
But his emotions he would not let out
After months of trying to communicate
She finally gave up hope
Tearfully she told him she loved him
But with this turmoil she could not cope
With her gone, he realised he loved her
But alas, he was too late
The pain settled back in his heart
As he surrendered to his fate

    Lovely poetry, very straight through.

Sometimes a person’s fears overwhelm them so much that they are unable to make positive decisions at all! Sorry for him!

So true Kajal… And sometimes when we don’t love ourselves we almost don’t expect others to love us!

This is so tragically beautiful. I was torn between the pathos of the situation and your incredible expression of the pain. Wonderful poem!

Heartbreakingly beautiful poem, loved it a lot. The worst part in a relationship is when one ignores the loved ones pleas, shutting them out.

Thanks Sulekha….it is hard when one party doesn’t communicate. Been there, experienced it and did not like it!

True Michelle… But sometimes the self-hatred is so strong we don’t see why someone else would love us.

Beautiful compositions. It is mostly the fear and the sense of insecurity that invades most of the positive things in life…so sad!
