I always wanted a pet as a child. My sister and I would beg our parents to let us keep a dog. But we never succeeded because they didn’t want to have pets in an apartment and well, they are neat freaks. So I had to make do with befriending all the stray dogs on our street. Mum would always say “When you have your own place, you can get a pet.”
So I waited. And waited. Renting limited my options. Most landlords don’t want tenants with pets. And then in 2009, I bought my own unit. Here was my chance to get a pet. I saved for a while and a couple of years later, I decided to bite the bullet. Having always been a dog-person, I wanted a dog. But I realised it would be unfair to the poor pup to be in an apartment and me at work all day. I figured I could try a cat. Not being the biggest fan of them, I tried my luck to adopt one.
I found Pebbles. And I was smitten.
Who knew I would like a cat? But then Pebbles is no ordinary cat. She loves attention, is a total sook and wants to be around me all the time. I’m not kidding. All. the. time. She plays fetch. And is the biggest talker. Then I got a second one because I thought Pebbles would like the company. So we welcomed Buttons but all was not rosy to begin with. Luckily things worked out and we have had two lovely years together so far.
Pebbles and Buttons have made my life so much more amazing. They were my saviours after the break up. It’s like they knew. They gave me cuddles. They kept me company. They were just there. And they continue to give me a whole lot of love and affection. And in turn, I cannot begin to imagine my life without them.
I came across this beautiful quote online that sums up my life with Pebbles and Buttons:
Without pets my house would be clean and my wallet would be full but my heart would be empty
Have you got any pets? How do they help you live your life?
Until next time,
