A to Z Challenge Kitty Kapers

P is for Pets #atozchallenge

I always wanted a pet as a child. My sister and I would beg our parents to let us keep a dog. But we never succeeded because they didn’t want to have pets in an apartment and well, they are neat freaks. So I had to make do with befriending all the stray dogs on our street. Mum would always say “When you have your own place, you can get a pet.”

So I waited. And waited. Renting limited my options. Most landlords don’t want tenants with pets. And then in 2009, I bought my own unit. Here was my chance to get a pet. I saved for a while and a couple of years later, I decided to bite the bullet. Having always been a dog-person, I wanted a dog. But I realised it would be unfair to the poor pup to be in an apartment and me at work all day. I figured I could try a cat. Not being the biggest fan of them, I tried my luck to adopt one.

I found Pebbles. And I was smitten.

Who knew I would like a cat? But then Pebbles is no ordinary cat. She loves attention, is a total sook and wants to be around me all the time. I’m not kidding. All. the. time. She plays fetch. And is the biggest talker. Then I got a second one because I thought Pebbles would like the company. So we welcomed Buttons but all was not rosy to begin with. Luckily things worked out and we have had two lovely years together so far.

Pebbles and Buttons have made my life so much more amazing. They were my saviours after the break up. It’s like they knew. They gave me cuddles. They kept me company. They were just there. And they continue to give me a whole lot of love and affection. And in turn, I cannot begin to imagine my life without them.

cats a to z challenge

I came across this beautiful quote online that sums up my life with Pebbles and Buttons:

Without pets my house would be clean and my wallet would be full but my heart would be empty

Have you got any pets? How do they help you live your life?

Do share!

Pets keep us sane. I adore mine and bore everyone silly on my blog about them! AND they let me put their photo on unlike my teenagers.

Pets are good stress busters also and in single child house the pet teaches the child art of caring…

I lost my dog about 10 years back. I still haven’t had the nerve to get another one. It breaks my heart to replace him.

I have not been able to get a pet since I lost my cat Coke… And with all the travelling and moving I’ve done over the past 10 years or so it’s just easier not to have one. When I am all settled again I will definitely get a pet of some sort..

From the Dog person you ended up taking care of cats…. Its very thoughtful of you to bring another for the Pebble’s company. Cats are cleanliness lovers. I have never had any pet- though I love pets but I can’t take care of the one 24×7. They need so much care and love. I enjoy playing with them at my relatives house- though I never played with a cat till now except once in childhood!!!

Your cats are gorgeous! We currently have three cats – a mama and her two boys – and love them to bits. The house is just not the same when there are no pets in it. 🙂

I love pets! I have a cat now whom I call Mumay. Most of my years were spent having cats around the house. Always they are stray cats that have found their way to us, but not until Ligaya, who gave birth who is Mumay’s granma. Mumay’s Mom, Miyo, was the original home-borne cat.

Now, I honestly am more of a dog-person myself. But it’s been years since the last one because my mother would not allow another dog at home because, basically, she said she was the one doing my responsibilities while I was away working on weekdays. I realized it was true and felt guilty. She and my father have been gone for around two years now and I still don’t have a dog. But that’s because when I am away on weekdays, no one is at home and I don’t think that would be good for the dog even if I hired someone to feed him. Mumay manages well, but he’s a cat. Dogs need more human-dog bonding than that. That’s going to change soon, though, once I get married. I’ll get a dog, that’s for sure!!! 😀
