Movie Review: The Fault in our Stars

Thanks to Nuffnang Australia, I went to watch a preview screening of The Fault in our Stars at Event Cinemas last night. If you follow my blog, you probably read my book review a while back. If you didn’t, go read it now. I’ll wait.

Now that you’re back, you probably know I loved the book. I cried. I laughed. I enjoyed every moment. So it was  a big ask for me to go and watch the movie. I’m always afraid that movies will never live up to the books I love {Harry Potter was one such example} and am usually wary about watching the movies as a result.

What can I say about the movie adaptation of ‘The Fault in our Stars’?

It was really quite good!

Once again, I laughed, I cried and I enjoyed it all. This time, even though I knew the ending. The actors playing Hazel (Shailene Woodley), Augustus (Ansel Elgort) and Issac (Nat Wolff) did a great job giving life to the characters.  I must admit the Gus I’d imagined in my mind was way cuter…but then, that happens I’m sure. Hazel’s characterisation though was perfect. The pain she experiences is so real, it’s hard for you as the viewed to not experience it with her. Hazel’s parents were also wonderfully portrayed. Obviously, a movie cannot have everything the book does and it’s probably because I read it almost a couple of years ago but it seemed to do justice to the book.

The Fault in our Stars releases in Australia on 5th of June. Go watch it! Don’t forget to take a packet of tissues though…

Until next time,

Cheers!!!
