Out and About

Travel Tales: Narooma

Following my stay at Wallaga Lake, I headed to Narooma. I did stop at Tilba on the way but was still at Narooma by noon. My first stop in Narooma was the Information Centre {like with most places!} and I booked myself onto a Montague Island circumvent tour for later that arvo. Apparently, due to construction on the island, there were no island tours like they usually have. But this one would guarantee us a view of the island from the boat as well as seal watching.

While I waited, I went to a few of the popular spots including Bar Rock Lookout which has the famous ‘Australia Rock’. This is a rock which is cut in the middle {naturally, I presume} and the cut-out looks like the map of Australia. I had already made up my mind to visit there at sunrise again to get some pictures. I drove around the city a bit and well, basically, whiled away some time in stores. At 1, I set sail with 9 other people {all elderly!} for some seal watching. We were fortunate to spot a couple of humpback whales headed up north as well. It was a spectacular couple of hours surrounded by water.

After getting back to shore, I checked into the YHA for one night. I had the 7-bed mixed room all to myself which was a bonus and figured I’d head out to dinner that night instead of eating in. I made my way to Narooma Country Club after freshening up and enjoyed a drink and meal. I had a reasonably early night as I wanted to be up to catch the sunrise the next morning. And catch it I did! It was unbelievably amazing. I don’t think the photos do it justice. Unfortunately, it was an overcast and drizzly morning but it was still pretty damn good. I left Narooma after having breakfast at a café and made my way up north to Tuross Heads.

More about that adventure in my next post. For now, enjoy the sights of Narooma here:

oh those pics are just gorgeous! And i am with you! never too many pics of a gorgeous sunrise! I am in awe of your trip and how you are just going with the flow and your confidence to go to dinner by yourself! I am such a big introvert!! I booked myself into a hostel room with 8 beds when I arrived in NZ a few years ago on NY eve thinking that would be a great way to meet people to hang out with that night, but I was the only one in the room!!! hahaha… I wasn’t brave enough to venture out on my own so just sat in my room and watched the fireworks from the window!
