All about the mind Giveaway

Soothing scents for the senses {includes giveaway}

This post is brought to you by Air Wick

I have been very overwhelmed lately what with the year winding down and all the Christmas activities in full swing as well as of course preparing for my hiking trip on Boxing day. Anyway, I was a bit of a nut job yesterday after a full weekend. Which basically means I was ready to cry at the drop of a hat and was cleaning like a maniac and well, procrastinating from what I could be doing. JK was trying his best to deal with an emotional wreck.

It then struck me that I needed some time out. I needed to slow down. To be present. And let everything else take its course. Which made me think of ways to relax.

It’s funny when I later realised how many of those had to do with smells.

1. Relaxing bath/shower: I am fortunate to have a bathtub at home. So relax in the bath I did. I just lay there {writing this very post in my head!} And at the same time, I enjoyed the scent of my coconut and vanilla bathing liquid.

2. Body lotion: I rarely pamper myself and am more of a quick moisturiser and face cream kind of person. But last night I took time to apply my body lotion while enjoying the different smells of vanilla and how it felt on my body.

3. Scented candles: I then lay in my room with the lights out and just a few scented candles and the two cats for company. It’s amazing what scented candles can do. I have no clue whether it’s purely in our heads or whether there is some evidence for it, but I find scented candles very soothing. For some reason, regular candles just don’t do it. I own a fair few scents including vanilla, orange, chocolate and lemon. I must confess that the vanilla fragrances tend to be my favourites {I wonder if you are noticing a bit of a theme here!}

4. Tea: I then sat back with a cup of herbal tea to soothe me further and rest into the night. I have a few I use to relax me including one with lemon grass and lavender among other herbs {no vanilla here!} which I find really relaxes me. The aroma does have a bit to do with it but so does the herbal infusion itself.

5. Massage: I don’t know about you but when I am stressed, I end up with really tight shoulder and neck muscles and a massage for those can do wonders! Of course, if you can manage to squeeze in a full body massage with the essential oils, then all the better for you! 🙂

6. Exercise: Now this is something I couldn’t do last night but is certainly something that helps de-stress me. The harder I go, the better it is. As for a ‘scent’ associated with this, don’t judge me if I say the smell of sweat is a stress-buster. My own, I mean. That way I know I have really worked out!

I am feeling a lot more in control today. Sure I haven’t yet packed for my trip but I feel like I can get it all done in the next couple of days.

So tell me, what are some soothing scents for you? Any fragrances that act as stress-busters?

    I love the smell of vanilla. The thing that relaxes me is a rejuvenating bath after being back from work.. How ever during winter it is difficult to have bath and I am not able to relax easily ..

    Oh all of that sounds so good. I could so go a bath right now and you’ve just reminded me that I was going to paint my toenails tonight. Dang! I love just about anything with a gorgeous scent. It’s better than the smells the husband and kids throw at me! I do like the florally ones best, like roses and frangapani.

    I find the scent of chamomile really relaxing, I think it triggers the calm feeling of drinking a cup of chamomile tea.

    I stumbled upon this blog, looking for hiking pages! The smell of the Australian bush always centres me – eucalyptus and fresh air, all rolled together!
