Life

Good Morning Sunshine

Once upon a time, I wanted to stab those cheerful morning people. You know, the ones who bounce out of bed, have a cuppa and get on with their day filled with energy? Annoying as hell. Well, I must confess: I have become one of those people.

I used to be a night owl most of my life. And then, around late 2011 and early 2012, things began to change. I started to wake up around 5 in the morning. I honestly didn’t think it would last. But cut to late 2015, and it’s still something I do. I’ll be honest that I’m not as cheerful and energetic as I used to be but I blame that on late nights {thanks to uni} and early mornings. But another 6 weeks of uni and I’m done. Which means, I can go back to being the kind of person I used to want to stab.

There is something fulfilling about waking up early in the morning. I like that I can fit in the gym most mornings at 6 and have fed the cats and have everything ready for work. I love my morning cross-training sessions or bootcamp before I head to work. It’s what gets me out of bed. I also love that leaving early for work means I get to avoid traffic and get some of my down time before I have to start working. Sure, my morning routine does get a bit monotonous at times but I know why I do it.

I like early mornings even more on weekends. I love that I can sip a cup of coffee and watch a bit of telly while spending quiet time with the cats. Or even just lie awake in bed planning for my day. I love being busy or even just taking it easy.

Currently though, I do have to drag myself out of bed rather than jump out willingly. That’s because sleeping at 11 p.m or later is not conducive to responding positively to a 5 a.m. alarm. My energy lifts while I am exercising but hits a slump once I get to work. As for afternoons, if I have clients, I am ok but otherwise, all I want to do is have a nanna nap! I know I need a change. I need more sleep. And I just need a change in environment. But I’m telling myself: one thing at a time.

One thing is for sure: whether I’m a morning person or a night owl, coffee is essential.

What about you? Are you a morning person, night owl or an afternoon achiever?

Do share!

After my retreat (waking at 5.30) I am determined to get back into the habit of training early. That means going to bed at 9pm though! I need a good 8 hours.

LOL your funny – stabbing those happy morning people (Umm Im one of those people – I will be careful). I am one of those grumpy people in the afternoon when all my energy just disappears and I want a nanna nap.

At the moment I feel like I am being forced to being a morning person, but I actually don’t mind it. I love getting up and having really productive mornings and then lazing about in the afternoon! Hope you are able to find a better balance soon! Good luck with the last few weeks of Uni!

I’m all over the place at the moment with sleep. I’m generally a night owl but give up coffee for any extended time and I do start to look more like a morning person than I should.

I really want to be one of those people. And I do like getting up early and getting things done and getting exercise in too. But at the moment, I want my sleep more. Perhaps I’ll have another go at early starts once my knee is recovered and I can go for morning walks again…perhaps!

I keep fluctuating. I can be a night owl but I can also be an early riser (if needed). I prefer snoozing my alarm 7-8 times but weirdly, on the days I wake up early without snoozing it, I feel more energized and peppy. Still, there are times when I just CAN’T get out of bed early. I have a complicated relationship with mornings 😀

I have always been a bit of a morning person but as I whine about on my blog often enough the late nights/early mornings are killing me. 6 more weeks and you can go back to being human again 🙂

I still seem to be a night owl, mind you having a toddler that’s exactly what I shouldn’t be because I’m forced out of bed early each morning whether I want to be or not.

I’m a night owl right now. I need that couple of hours after the kids have gone to bed. I used to be a morning person and remember seeing the beautiful colours of the sunrise out my kitchen window (before there were other houses and sheds not blocking the view…progress). One day I will be back to that, having my own time in the morning. At the moment I am rudely and abruptly woken by children ready to start the day! I have no choice but to comply! 🙂

Ohh I’m the same. Waking up early makes me feel so much more accomplished. I rarely sleep in these days. Even on weekends and I’m the same as you. I just love the quiet time. I’ll admit, I’m NOT a cheerful morning person though. It still takes me a bit of time to get used to the fact that it is in fact morning.
