Kitty Kapers

17 signs you are a crazy cat owner

I have now had cats for three years and given that I used to be a dog person but have transformed into a crazy cat owner {not crazy cat lady}, I feel like I can speak on this topic with some authority. In case you are wondering, here are some signs that you are a crazy cat person:

You correct people who refer to your cat as ‘it’. You specify whether the cat is male or female. Point in reference, Buttons is a ‘he’ and Pebbles is a ‘she’. Neither of them is an ‘it’.

You have conversations with your kitty. It’s perfectly normal to talk to your cats when you wake up in the morning, are leaving home, when you get home from work, while feeding them or any other time you’re awake. Conversations can range from ‘What did you guys get up to today?’ to ‘Bye sweeties…be good!’

You snuggle with your kitty. While it’s nice to spoon with your partner, it’s even nicer to have a kitty to cuddle with. Especially if you’ve got a spooner like my Buttons. I swear he is human. Or at least he thinks he is.

Your clothes are covered with cat hair. As is everything else you own. And that’s normal. You try to avoid wearing black {which is hard as most formal clothes are black!}. Consequently, carrying a lint remover is just as normal and you make sure you have one in your car, one at home and one on your desk at work.

Following from the above, somehow, miraculously, your office chair is the only chair with cat hair on it. Even after using the lint remover. There may be the slight possibility that you are shedding along with your cats.

You kiss your cats on the lips. Even though you know where their mouth goes.

You try and reason with your cats when they are being difficult. For instance, explaining why antibiotics are necessary when they have the flu. Because you know, cats get logic.

Your Instagram feed mainly has photos of your cats. Or maybe, your cat has his or her own Instagram account.

You convince people who hate cats that they just haven’t met your cat(s). After all, who in their right minds could hate cuddly kitties with innocent faces and purrs?

You refuse to get up if your cat has decided to sit on your lap. Or lie on your stomach. It doesn’t matter if you are busting for a wee or have to head for dinner, your kitty’s comfort comes first. You’ll gush over her purring and just hold that wee in for as long as she wants to stay on your lap.

You buy kitty magazines for your cats and because they can’t really read, you will read it out loud to them. They get the jokes, all right.

You Skype with your cats when you are away from them. And you swear they recognise your voice.

You know your cats behaviours like your own. For instance, you know when Pebbles wants to wee but thinks the litter box is messy and decides to be a princess and choose your favourite handbag. Luckily, because you know her well, you can change her kitty litter straightaway and bow to her needs.

You are perfectly fine with your cat attempting to groom you. You know it means he or she has completely accepted you as part of the feline world.

When other people are talking about children, you think it’s perfectly appropriate to talk about your cats. They are your babies, after all.  Just as parents talk about toddlers wanting to be around them all the time, you mention how Buttons follows you when you are in the toilet or brushing you teeth or in the shower or in bed.

You consider starting a Youtube channel for your cats. Instagram is just not enough!

You realise your cat has trained you very well and are okay with it. When other people point it out, you explain that cats are smarter than dogs and train us humans to heed to their commands. And there’s nothing wrong with that.

Have you got any other signs that you {or someone you know} is a crazy cat owner?

Do share!

Well Sanch, I’m a dog person but I have a cat and love all animals. I wouldn’t kiss my cat on the lips I don’t think. I kiss my dogs on the neck but avoid their mouths even though I usually end up with a horrible slithery tongue on my mouth. My dogs leave hair over everything too. I think cats are definitely smarter than dogs in a lot of ways. My dogs are all over Youtube so don’t hesitate to do it 🙂

I love cats and dogs! For different reasons. I like that you have to win a cat’s affection and attention, but I love how dogs are loyal and trusting. I love knowing that my cat is there in the room with me, it makes it feel calm, but I love taking our dogs for walks. I think you can be both right?
PS Your cats look gorgeous 🙂

Hilarious! I am a dog person (and no, I haven’t met your cat!) but this made me chuckle. I hope you’re not shedding too much! #teamIBOT

Don’t like the sound of cat hair but then I’m not an animal person. However since I wasn’t a child-person and have since grown to enjoy motherhood who knows one day I might get to enjoy cat-hair too.

I have to admit that one of the reasons I wouldn’t get a cat is because I’m in my 40s and single. I would be the stereotypical cat lady. So no no no no.

Plus I think I’d get too attached and it / they would become my life!

Hahahhahahhah! I know WAY too many cat lovers because this all seems perfectly normal to me. Clearly they have desensitised me. Love it!

I love this post and I think I am guilty of all of these! We have a saying in our house, that people who don’t like cats have never owned one. There is nothing like the bond between you and your very own kitty. Dogs will go to anyone but a kitty has much more discerning tastes! Miss Fleur sends her love to Pebbles and Buttons xxx

This made me laugh! I have all these signs, except they’re for my chihuahua, Buffy ! She spends a lot of time with my Mom and Dad’s cats, so maybe that’s where she learned to train me so well. 😉
