Sisterhood of the World Bloggers

The lovely Janine of Reflections from a Redhead nominated me for the Sisterhood of the World Bloggers award. It sounds so fancy, doesn’t it? Anyway, it works like some other bloggy awards — questions and answers. Here are my answers to Janine’s questions:

Where is your favourite place in the world and why? This could be a country, city, place, cafe…

P1050414

My favourite place has to be a beach or a lake; the less crowded, the better. Anywhere by the water is soothing for me. It’s my happy place and it calms me down. Sure, I don’t live right by the water but I did the next best thing, I bought a place that’s not too far from a beach. A 10 minute drive it may be, but that’s better than a lot of people who have to sometimes travel over an hour to get to one.

Are you an introvert or an extrovert or a mix? How has this impacted on your life?

I have written a few posts on this one. I have been an introvert for most of my life and came to terms with it in my twenties. Somehow, after pushing myself out of my comfort zone, I began to realise that I could potentially have become an extrovert. I was starting to get re-energised by being around others than on my own. Slowly though, in this past year, possibly due to being a bit depressed, I seem to be craving my me-time again.

Tell us about a good movie, TV show or book you’ve loved watching / reading recently? I’m always open to recommendations!

I haven’t seen a new movie in a long time — I think the last one was in December or January. But I have been reading and Netflixing {that’s totally a word!}. The most recent book I read and loved was Everything I Never Told You. As for TV shows, the last two shows that really had me hooked and binge-watching  were The Killing and The Fall. Both are available on Netflix. I am not very consistent with my TV watching but I did watch The X-Files when they brought it back for 6 episodes earlier this year.

Sweet or savoury?

Currently it’s both. My diet is pretty bad at the moment and I notice I crave sugars and foods high in salt. I do have a sweet tooth but on the whole I still reckon I go for the salty stuff. FYI, Kettle chilli chips are evil! I can go through a whole big packet in one sitting.

What are your tips for overcoming writer’s block?

Most of my writer’s block comes from self-doubt. Usually, if it’s too bad and I can’t type out the words, I will freewrite by hand in a journal. It’s weird how actually writing helps the thoughts to flow. Apart from that, sometimes I just need a break before I can get back to writing.

If you found a genie in a bottle what would you wish for?

Right now? For six months off with money being deposited in my account so I can figure my shit out. And also, to go back to what my weight and body used to be in 2013-2014. I have completely lost my exercising mojo and my eating healthy plans have all gone out the window. I need them back! Please Mr Genie, that’s not too much to ask for, is it?

Has blogging changed your life? If so, how?

Totally! I’ve been blogging since 2008 and since then, have met a wonderful community of bloggers. Even though I haven’t met most if them in real life, there is a wonderful connection and it helps to have people who understand the blogosphere and its importance. They have been with me when I have struggled with stuff in my personal life as well as cheered any achievements.

Apart from the community, it has helped me with my writing skills. I can see how my writing has changed over the years. I have matured as has my writing. I still cringe when I read some of my earlier posts.

What are you looking forward to this year?

Well, the first three months of the year have drained me so much, my body and mind thinks it’s nearing the end of the year. That’s how exhausted I currently am. So you know what? A little less stress, a little more work-life balance, a lot more writing and a lot more of a healthy lifestyle is what I’d like to look forward to for the next 9 months.

What were you like as a teenager?

I was a strange teenager — part-nerd, part-socially awkward, part-rebel. I think I’ve always been stubborn and rebellious but not in the way of doing drugs or alcohol. I was honest and upfront but just rebelled against cultural norms within the family and at school. Sure, I got told off by relatives and family for being rude or got in trouble at school for whistling in the corridors {because girls don’t whistle} but it didn’t faze me. I was also quite anxious as a teenager but had limited insight into it back then. No surprise I chose to study psychology after being introduced to it at age 15.

What is your favourite thing to do in winter?

10174797_10152116860361725_1742272199312057606_n

I think we are fortunate in Sydney to have a relatively nice winter. Provided it doesn’t rain, of course. But usually, in winter I enjoy hiking and camping. It’s the perfect season to do it, there’s less fear of snakes and the campfire is more enjoyable on a cold night. Apart from that, I do like reading in the sunshine, having a coffee in the sun or occasionally spending time indoors with my cats and a book if it’s raining. Can you tell I love the warmth? Yeah, winter certainly isn’t my favourite season.

According to the rules of this award, apart from thanking the person who nominated me, I have to nominate 10 other bloggers and provide them with a list of 10 questions. I’m going to nominate the following:

Ashleigh from My Meow

Erin from Texerin in Sydneyland

Amy from Handbagmafia

Vanessa from NormalNess

PeeVee from Cookies Crumbs Inc

Parul from Happiness and Food

Tulika from Obsessive Mom

Melissa from Hugzilla Blog

Pinky from Pinky on the mountain

Red-handed from Red-handed blog

And anyone else who might want to take this on…

So, my questions to you:

  • If you were allowed one thing when stranded on a deserted island, what would you take?
  • Favourite month of the year and why.
  • My social media platform of choice.
  • A recent book/movie or TV show you’d recommend.
  • Apple or Android?
  • What’s your comfort food?
  • An embarrassing memory from your teenage or childhood years
  • Where do you write/blog? Tell us about the space that lets your creative juices flow.
  • Birthdays — how do you celebrate?
  • One thing you want on your wishlist.

So go on ladies! Answer these and pass on the love with the same rules.

***Linking with Jess for IBOT***

Until next time,

Cheers!!!

I’m always interested to read these as you learn so much about people.

I enjoyed The Killing but missed The Fall, but I do want to see it at some point.

I wish a genie would offer up a lot of money as well so I could take time off and figure stuff out, though I’ve done that before. (In reality it did help and I’ve been able to narrow the field a lot!)

And unlike you I LOVE winter. Bring it on!

Great questions you’ve posed Sanch. Thank you for the nomination. I too am an introvert. I never thought I was but now I realise i am. I’m happy to accept that. I’m really glad I’m part of your blogging community 🙂

Thanks for the shout-out! I also love bushwalking at this time of the year because of the minimised snake threat! Though, having said that… What the heck has happened to autumn this year? A month in and still no sign of it. And another 35 degree day tomorrow – still too many snakes around for me to feel comfortable just yet!

Nice to know you a little better Sanch. You would love the beaches over here in my part of SA. Sometimes we are the only people on them.
