True Colours

alone-1501946_1280

At school she was the popular kid
The cool girl of the crowd
Everybody wanted to be with her
Her clique of friends felt proud

She grew up to become famous
People wanted to know her
They gushed and they fussed
About how connected they were

When she became obscenely rich
She was never short of friends
They partied along with her
And kept up with her trends

One fine day she lost it all
Money, fame and looks
Her friends all deserted her
Showing themselves as crooks

She realised then what she had
Was no one who really cared
They’d loved her only for her stuff
Now leaving her lonely and impaired

Some tough life lessons there for the girl! But hey, all is not bad with this world.I’d tell her all is not lost. That there is true friendship waiting around the corner for her, some genuine folks out there who she will cross paths with and some wonderful times that she will be in, which will one day outweigh all those negative experiences and make her see that the world as really a mix of both!

Tough and very few people can filter true friends from those who stay on for a reason. Well written, Sanch. There is pain in the poem.

A sad truth, something I’ve seen for myself. When money is involved there is the sudden gush of love and friendliness that disappears as soon as the money is lost. Beautifully written.

True. Very few friends actually stay for friendship these days 🙁 Have felt that as well. Your poem had a peppy rhythm to the poignancy, Sanch. I like it!
