Misunderstood #FridayReflections

When I’m quiet in a group, it’s not because I’m shy. It’s because I’m thinking, observing and listening before I speak.

When I’m spending time on my own, it’s not because I’m lonely. It’s because I’m an introvert and that’s how I recharge.

When I’m speaking my mind in a fiery manner, it’s not because I’m rude and obnoxious. It’s because I’m passionate and need to have my say.

When I’m particular about how things need to be done, it’s not because I’m ‘high-maintenance’. It’s because I think there is logical reason behind it and I’ve usually worked it out.

When I’m frustrated and angry with someone, it’s not because I cannot manage my emotions. It’s because I think you are incompetent or narrow-minded.

When I’m curled up with a book or my laptop, it’s not because I can’t be social. It’s because I’m  trying to relax by reading or writing.

When I’m worrying about the future, or even about something specific, it’s not because I’m crazy. It’s because I’m an anxious person who is trying my best to manage most of my anxieties.

When I’m critical or lash out at you, it’s not because I intend to be a nasty person. It’s because my anxieties have been triggered very badly.

When I’m open, honest and upfront, it’s not because I’m weird. It’s because I’m willing to be vulnerable.

When I converse at a superficial level with you, it’s not because I’m cold and aloof. It’s because you haven’t earned the right to hear my story.

When I pull away from you after being close, it’s not because something is wrong with me. It’s because you’ve hurt me badly and I’m just protecting myself.

When I request you to listen carefully to me, it’s not because I’m being critical of you. It’s because I’m tired of being misunderstood.
