Prized Possession #FridayReflections

I will admit I’m a hoarder. I’m one of those people who collects a lot of stuff, saves a lot of stuff and then wonders why the hell I do it. Usually I buy things out of sentimental value, other times because I think I need them, and of course, some times because I want them.

So when it comes to thinking about my ‘prized possession’, it’s a tough choice.

Is it the gadgets like the laptop, iPad, or phone?

Is it the telly or the music stereo?

Is it the clothes, the shoes, the few pieces of jewellery?

Is it the furniture — the sofas, the coffee table, the desks?

Is it my car, something I need to get around on a daily basis?

Is it the books that adorn my bookshelves? And the ones I continue to buy?

Interestingly, as much as I need or use or want these, I still figure they can be replaced.

My one prized possession though would have to be my apartment in Sydney. Sure, it sounds materialistic but I still love my two-bedroom unit in a beautiful red-brick building. It’s the first home I bought myself. The one I worked hard to save up for and then, even harder to keep paying off. While I still haven’t paid it all off, and sadly, no longer live in it, I miss it immensely. I find that I cannot grow to love my current home as much because somehow, the unit reminded me of my childhood days.

It had warmth the minute I viewed it. It embraced me when I was lonely, kept me safe in its cocoon. The double brick walls kept me cool in the hot summers and warm in the cold winters. It was the first home for my cats. The first home for me as an adult.

I miss it. And yes, I consider it my prized possession.

Some day, I know I’ll go back.

What about you?

What’s your prized possession?

Do share!

I think most houses have a vibe which might either agree with you or not. And once you find one you like and settle down in it, it becomes much more than a materialistic possession. So yes I can well understand why you love it.

Hmmmm, we own our house, but it’s not exactly our dream home… so I guess I have mixed feelings about it. I’d probably say my jewellery, wedding rings etc because they have sentimental value. Hope you get back to your unit one day.

My husband and I have lived in our house for almost 30 years (it will be 30 years next month). At first, we intended it as a starter house and, in fact, we tried to buy another house twice. This house wouldn’t sell. I think the house had picked us. My best friend said this house had wonderful vibrations – after 30 years, I have to agree. As for my most prized possession – perhaps it is my house. Perhaps it is (plural) all of my books.

This is something really emotional Sanchie. Old homes have a different aura around them that gets instilled in our minds forever.

I doubt if I would call it materialistic. It is something you struggled, slaved and bought. And it is not something small… an actual 2BHK. Total respect for that.

It’s commendable to buy your own home at a young age and I don’t blame you for considering it to be your prized possession. Even though I love things I can’t really pin point to one prized possession.

No, definitely not materialistic. It is yours, the one which you’ve worked hard for and have such fond memories associated with it. 🙂

Can Bellybytes win two weeks in a row? I don’t know how to vote, but if I could, she wins my vote once again.
