The Month That Was

Passionate September 2017

In September, my aim was to focus on passion. I’m not sure that happened as much as I’d like to but it kinda did. I indulged in my passion of reading a lot in September. I reviewed a couple of those books {with more to come}. An Isolated Incident by Emily Maguire was dark and disturbing while The Dry by Jane Harper was an intriguing ride. I wrote some flash fiction pieces to continue my creative writing journey.

On the blog last month, I mused about how every time in life when situations have seemed impossible to cope with, they have resulted in some form of opportunity in the end. I wondered about how happiness is ephemeral. Plus, I tackled the biggest Australian question: Bush or Beach. Finally, I also wrote about longing for a dog so I have a companion outside the house. I doubt I’ll get one but there’s no harm in yearning I suppose.

Apart from that, I spent September hiking, writing, exercising, catching up with friends and going to the theatre. Work has been hectic and I also had a few personal problems offline that were quite emotionally draining. I even contemplated shutting down my blog for an hour or so after some of the problems spread online but I think it’s been sorted out now.

As we start the last quarter of 2017, I for one, am hoping some days fly by {work days!} while others slow down. It’s nice to have started daylight savings yesterday and the warmer weather means more time at the beach soon. In October, I’m also participating in the Write Tribe Problogger Challenge which involves blogging for nine days this month {I’m aiming for more personally but we’ll see}. I’m hoping this month involves more writing outside the blog too and hopefully, a kickstart for NaNoWriMo.

My positive emotion to focus on this month is Contentment. I’m going to try and seek contentment in the little things. Hopefully, you can follow that journey on Instagram.

How was your September?

Are you excited about the last three months of 2017?

You have had a busy September. We were going crazy with the festivals here too. I have been longing for a dog too – in fact, I’ll like a feline friend too but a toddler and a pet would be a nightmare for me, so still being skeptical!

I love the idea of focusing on one word a month. I chose balance for 2017 and I’ve completely failed. I think one word a month would be better!

September really flew by. Now we’re in the final quarter of the year which I always look forward to. I know it’s going to go fast. I’m going to focus on living in the moment and enjoying every second of my favorite time of year.

Haha…my word for the year was actually ‘flourish’ and I tied that in with a positive psychology challenge for myself to focus on one ‘positive’ emotion a month in order to flourish. I’ll be honest, it hasn’t always worked out well this year with a relationship breakdown and work stress. But I’m persisting. I think balance is a great word but yes, it’s so hard to do consistently in life!

You seem to have done a lot of things in September. As for me, I worked really hard in September and am really looking forward to some downtime this month. A few stress free days.

The focus on one word a month is a great idea. Contentment is a great choice as we head into the end of the year and hopefully lots of down time and time with the people we love best.

You had a pretty full September. I loved the thought that when something is a setback, it leads to an opportunity. Such a wonderful silver lining, don’t you feel? Contentment is lovely to aim for. And about the dog, I think you should get one. They make for such fabulous companions. Have a lovely, fulfilling October, Sanch.

so happy that daylight savings have started. I can now do more walking in the evenings. I am sorry your issues spread online… That’s really hard to tackle but glad it worked out. I am lagging on my reading, need to pick it up. I yearn for a dog too… But don’t have the heart to leave it alone the whole day. Maybe someday!

You got quite a bit done this September. I love wrap up posts. It kind of puts the entire month in perspective and brings a sense of achievement. With October here and just three months to go for the year to end I suddenly feel there are so many things I’d planned to do this year that remain undone. Need to take better control.

Such a beautiful September you had. Your pictures always make me feel so happy when I go through them on Insta.

I love the month gone by posts and they teach you so much once you look back at them. September was all about acceptance and letting go for me. October is going to be the same. I’ve learnt to let loose a bit sit back and enjoy the smaller things without the need for being in control all the time.

All the best for NaNoWriMo πŸ™‚

You have had quiet a busy September it seems. My September was full of emotional & physical exhaustion but now I am looking forward to winters – a season I love for multiple reasons. The top reason being, I can crawl up in bed with my laptop & coffee & write more effectively than in summers.
